(Or, Why We Don’t Have a Sauna)
Let’s start with the obvious: we’re all about water.
When we started dreaming up Flux, we weren’t picturing a room with dry heat and a timer on the wall. We were thinking about hot springs after a long hike. About alpine creeks that steal your breath. About the glow of sunset steam and the quiet connection that happens when people share space, float, breathe, and just be.
That’s the inspiration behind Flux—and the reason we built our lounge around water, not saunas.
So what’s the difference?
Dry heat (like a sauna) warms you from the outside in, usually via hot air. It’s effective, but not especially efficient. Water, on the other hand, has higher thermal conductivity—meaning it transfers heat faster and more evenly into your body. Add in hydrostatic pressure (that gentle squeeze you get from being immersed), and circulation gets a real boost. Blood flows better. Muscles relax deeper. Your whole system chills out—literally and figuratively.
Studies even show that passive hot water immersion can mimic some of the cardiovascular benefits of aerobic exercise. No treadmill required.
In other words, water works hard—so you don’t have to.
And unlike more structured formats, there’s no prescribed protocol here. No 12-minute rounds. No one tapping their watch.
At Flux, you move between hot and cold on your own terms. You float. You laugh. You reconnect—with your body, with your breath, maybe even with a friend or two.
It’s therapeutic, yes—but also deeply human.
Saunas absolutely have their place—and there are some great ones here in Bend. They’re great for people who love that dry heat, enclosed space, and set routine.
At Flux, we’ve just chosen a different path. One that’s open, flowing, and grounded in water. Our communal hot soak and cold plunge are designed to be shared—no appointment needed, no cap on time.
So no sauna? That’s right.
Not because we don’t believe in them—just because this is what we believe in more.
